The Power Of Visioning With Vision Boards

The whole process of creating a vision board is massively cathartic. Firstly, you dedicate valuable and special time to concentrate on yourself for a few hours, which most of us never do.

Our lives are so congested and overflowing. We wake up, we work and we have our chores. We have limited flexibility in our daily environments, and we can become almost robotic over time; that’s one major reason that most people feel stuck in life. They’re exhausted and overworked, they’ve lost touch with their creative side and they always come last on their to-do list.

Creating a vision board gets you unstuck. It’s also an opportunity to dream about having a better life, a fulfilling career, a successful business, a wonderful relationship, great health and a really enjoyable lifestyle.

It’s also an opportunity to jot down on paper the jumble of thoughts that we usually have going round in our heads. Some of those thoughts may be hopes and dreams for a better future that you’ve never allowed yourself to have.

Finally, what happens in the brain during the process of creating the vision board is essentially a ‘positive-emotion booster’. Simply going through the process step by step – which can involve  determining intention; journaling; meditation; flicking through magazines; cutting and sorting through images, words and phrases; visualising; and creating your very own vision board – provides a positive emotional space that energises the brain, as well as producing a lovely dopamine hit!

Vision boards alone don’t get you to your goals; you have to be prepared to put in the work, but don’t let this stop you from thinking big.

There have been hundreds of success stories from my workshops – books published, beekeeping businesses formed, new homes purchased in new locations, appearances made in the press, health and bodies transformed, careers developed and much, much more!

What you need to create a vision board

·         Time

·         Space

·         A board, a piece of card or paper, a pinboard, etc.

·         A glue stick

·         Scissors

·         At least 10 assorted magazines

·         An image of yourself to stick in the middle of the board

How to create a vision board

1.       Have fun with it.

2.       Get clear on what you want to achieve over the next year (ask yourself how you want to be, what you want to do and what you want to have).

3.       Write down your thoughts (in your notebook) until you can’t write any more.

4.       Flick through the magazines.

5.       Pick out pictures and text that resonate with you and that are associated with or represent your goals.

6.       Arrange them into different sections of the board, each representing an area of your life (put the image of yourself in the middle of the board). These are the sections to include:

·         Health and recreation

·         Work and career

·         Finances

·         Home environment

·         Personal growth

·         Travel

·         Family and friends

·         Community

·         Spirituality / religion

7.       Lastly, stick everything onto your vision board and it in a prominent place in your home where you’re going to be able to see it multiple times a day. This could be your kitchen, bedroom or sitting room, for example. Take a photo of your board and keep it as a screen saver and wallpaper for your mobile phone and computer / laptop.

Think of your vision board as being something that evolves. Things can change through the year. You may achieve some of the goals on there, so you can replace them with other goals by sticking images on top of what may not be resonating any more. Be open to changes in what you want to achieve. For example, if your goal is to go vegan, don’t beat yourself up if you’re more of a vegetarian after six months or so.

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed and not sure what direction to take next, then creating a vision board is a brilliant, positive process to go through. It’ll inspire you, motivate you, excite you, and give you a future vision and belief that anything is possible!

You’ll be able to see clearly for the first time in a long time, and the vision board will act as an anchor to keep you motivated and focused.

Be prepared to rediscover forgotten dreams, unearth dreams you didn’t know you even had and achieve incredible things!

PS - The above method is a summarised method of the even more powerful process that I created and refined over the last 6 years which is called the “VisionJourney Method®️” which means investing three weeks in the process which gets your crystal clear on what you want and what direction you are going to go in over the next 12 months and you have plan to work towards.
